BENEFITS OF A MEMBER

If you have served at least one day of active military duty since December 7, 1941 and were honorably discharged or you are still serving active military duty honorably, you are eligible for membership with The American Legion.

A Voice in Washington

We are the nation's most influential, effective and dependable advocate of veteran affairs fighting for better active-duty pay, improved housing for active-duty families and helping to ensure that the VA's medical system can properly care for veterans. 

VA Assistance

Your membership helps support Department Service Officers nationwide who assist veterans in preparing claims and obtaining your full military healthcare benefits through the VA. 

Women Veteran

The Legion also provides resources for women veterans to learn about their benefits, advocates for gender-specific health care and fights to end Military Sexual Trauma (MST).

NO-COST LEGIONCARE COVERAGE: The Department of The American Legion has arranged on your behalf $1,000.00 of Accidental Death Coverage at No Cost to You. This entitlement is nearly four times the value of the $255 Social Security burial benefit anyone receiving Social Security gets – and it pays in addition to it not replacing it. Louisiana Department of Veteran Affairs

License Plate Available

LDVA announced that the “Support Our Veterans” Louisiana License Plate is available for purchase through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. Visit any Louisiana State OVM locations, online at  www.expresslane.org , or by calling (225) 925-6146, costs include a one-time $25 fee in addition to regular license plate fees. Proceeds benefits the Military Family Assistance fund. For more information about LDVA programs, call 1-877-GEAUX-VA (1-877-432-8982) or visit www.vetaffairs.la.gov.

Women Auxiliary

We support our local post while becoming the premier service organization and foundation of every community providing support for our veterans, our military, and their families by shaping a positive future in an atmosphere of fellowship, patriotism, peace and security. 

Auxiliary membership includes grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of veterans eligible for American Legion membership. 

Sons of the Legion (S.A.L.)

Sons of the American Legion members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership.
